Brighton, Colorado – The Brighton Police Department is investigating a series of violent crimes that occurred in Brighton and surrounding areas on [date not provided in source material]. The spree began when police responded to a report of an assault in the 200 block of N. 11th Avenue around 8:44 a.m. Officers arrived to find a 72-year-old male deceased from what they described as a violent assault. Investigators identified the suspect as a family member of the victim, and it was noted that the suspect had been acting erratically. The suspect fled the scene driving a silver Honda CRV.
Shortly after, at approximately 9:37 a.m., Thornton Police were alerted to a vehicle crash on E. 168th Avenue near the 4700 block. The crash involved the suspect’s vehicle. A Good Samaritan stopped to assist but was carjacked at knifepoint by the suspect, who fled the scene in the passerby’s Camaro.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., an Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputy spotted the vehicle near E. 160th Avenue and Washington Street, outside a residence linked to another family member of both the suspect and the victim. Deputies confronted the suspect at the residence. According to the report, the suspect was armed and fired a weapon at the deputy. The ACSO deputy returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
