Officer's Quick CPR Saves Infant in Brighton

In Brighton, Colorado, a two-week-old infant stopped breathing last week, prompting an emergency call to ADCOM 911. Responders from Brighton Police and Brighton Fire, along with Community Services Officer Mendoza, arrived at the scene quickly.

Officer Mendoza, who was already in the immediate area, entered the residence and located the infant. After a brief assessment, he began CPR. Several chest compressions later, the baby regained consciousness and started crying. Officer Mendoza then took the infant outside, where Brighton Fire Paramedics took over medical care.

This incident came as an unexpected response from a Community Services Officer, whose typical duties do not include emergency medical interventions. The coordinated efforts by Brighton Police, Brighton Fire, and ADCOM 911 are credited with the positive outcome of saving the infant’s life.
