**Greeley City Council Proclaims Black History Month and Youth Arts Month**

During last night’s City Council meeting in Greeley, Colorado, Mayor John Gates issued two proclamations recognizing February as Black History Month and March as Youth Arts Month.

The proclamation for Black History Month highlights an opportunity to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans both locally and across the nation. The City of Greeley emphasized the importance of acknowledging the challenges, progress, and innovative spirit of Black Americans who have shaped and enriched communities, including Greeley and Weld County. Contributions from African Americans have been significant across fields like civil rights, medicine, technology, arts, education, and more.

The proclamation for Youth Arts Month recognized the value of art education for students, noting its ability to foster creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and cultural understanding. As part of this initiative, art educators in Greeley and Evans, from Kindergarten through college, will collaborate to showcase student artwork. Pieces will be displayed around the University of Northern Colorado campus and downtown Greeley throughout March in partnership with the Greeley Creative District, the Downtown Development Authority, and local businesses.
